A GIRL

We found out a couple weeks ago that we are having a GIRL! Well, 90% sure. :) The ultrasound tech Darla said she never gives 100% for girls. But it seemed pretty clear. We are SO SO excited. Cami and Lindsay are both having girls so there will be 3 girl cousins within 8 weeks of each other! So fun. I'm drinking boosts and trying to eat more because they were concerned at my lack of weight gain. But pretty sure the past week I've caught up... at least that's how it feels! I think my body just waits a little longer than others to put on the weight. The baby measured small but still in the normal range (25 percentile). The baby looks healthy and seems to be developing well which is such a blessing. Lest you thought the pic above was the real ultrasound, it's actually just part of my halloween costume! Didn't Caleb do a good job??
I have been awful at updating our family blog/journal lately. I think it's partly because I have no pictures to liven up my posts since we broke our camera! Lame excuse. We got a nice video camera though that takes ok still shots so I do have pics now. I'll give some highlights of the month of October...
- Date nights while Sam plays at the Batts'. We went out to Texas Roadhouse one night and then played racquetball a few nights ago. They have a son Mitchell who's a few months older than Sam and they play well together so it works out perfectly to do babysitting swops. We miss Sam a lot when we're gone but it's nice to have a little time just the two of us.
- A successful turnover in one of our fourplex units. Newtons moved out, Rolls moved in.
- 2 trips to Utah to look for cars and see family. The second one we got to see my Dad as he was in town for his yearly forum at BYU on corporate finance. We also spent time with Cami and Tyler, Jeff, and Laura. We went to the BYU vs. ISU game and watched ISU get killed! We got tickets from one of Melaleuca's exporters that Caleb works with so we enjoyed lots of food before the game and at half time.
- We finally bought a minivan!! We LOVE it. It's a 2003 Mazda MPV with 110,000 miles. After all our searching in Utah, we bought it from a family in Rexburg. The Dad is a professor at BYU-I. It's so reassuring to buy from someone who seems completely honest. It's been really well maintained and has a DVD player, leather seats, a sunroof, automatic sliding doors on both sides, all the minivan works. :) It's nice to be done looking at cars and to have found one at a good price that fits our needs really well.
- We sold Sparky! Just yesterday actually. I was both sad and relieved to see Sparky go. Been a great car for us.Minivan or Sparky? I choose the van!!
- Sam turned 18 months so he started going to nursery! He cries without his paci but if he has his paci he does okay. The first week I walked in to do singing time (I'm the primary pianist so I do a little music period in each of the nurseries while sharing time is going on) and Sam was sitting on a chair in the corner with his head leaned up against the wall and his eyes BARELY open. It broke my heart! We'd gotten back late the night before from Utah and he was so tired. The nursery leaders said he'd been on the verge of falling asleep for a while.
- Halloween was a lot of fun. We went to our ward trunk or treat Saturday night. Sam was an adorable dog and Caleb and I wore black shirts with skeletons. Mine had a baby skeleton on the stomach with a pink bow on the skull (pic at the top), and Caleb's had a hamburger. It was a hit. We had fun making the shirts together earlier that day. Luckily Caleb is much more skilled artistically than me so he did the baby skeleton! We didn't get a great family pic but it will have to do!Sam and I went to the library trick or treat with Kim and Mitch Batt on Monday and that was fun too. We go to the library every 2 weeks and Sam is obsessed with the fish there!
- Caleb and I spoke in church last Sunday on eternal families. It's always nice when you have an extra motivation like that to study a topic well because you learn so much.
- Sam is talking better and better everyday. He can repeat almost anything we say now. One of his favorites is to say "Holy cow!" after we say it. He also loves doing the ending chant of the Cougar fight song... "ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra ra, go.... Cougars!" He remembers the things that get a good reaction out of us and will repeat them often. He loves to copy me and yell "Honey!" if Caleb's upstairs and I'm down or vice versa. He is so dang much fun. He's obsessed with his football lately ("hooball" -- which is an improvement from "hootaball"). Ever since the BYU football game he says "hooball" every time he hears people cheering.
We are SO excited for the holidays!! I can't believe they're coming so quickly. Can't wait.
