2012

This is pathetically my first post in 2012! We are excited for the changes this year will bring. New baby for sure, and lots of other "new" possibilities.
I have a ways to go back... new year's eve night we spent at the Jones', visiting and eating and playing Ticket to Ride Europe. We got it from my sister Sarah for Christmas so we were excited to learn how to play. Basically if it wasn't your turn in the game you were taking a turn playing with Ellie and Sam in the living room! It was fun but went a little long as any game has the tendency to do when kids are around. We romantically (and accidentally -- we're lame!) rang in the new year just as we were going to bed.
A few days later I decided to drive to Utah with Sam to spend time with my Mom. She was there waiting for the arrival of Cami's baby. We intended to stay one night but ended up staying 3 and got to meet Baby Millie before we left! It was so fun spending time with my Mom and Cami and Tyler and Jeff for a few days. Sam is getting much better at being comfortable with people other than his parents. The day after we got home Sam and I were eating lunch and I said, "Sam, I miss Grandma." Then he said, "I miss Grandma. I miss Tyler. I miss Jeff. I miss Cami. I miss baby." He seriously said that! He remembered everyone we'd spent most of our time with in Utah and listed them off. I didn't even know he knew what it meant to miss someone, but apparently I told him I missed Daddy enough in Utah that he caught on! Cami's delivery went well and we're so happy Millie Mae is here and perfectly healthy. She's so cute and it made me really want a baby (Good thing we only have 7 more weeks until we will)!Sam was so cute with Millie. Cami let him sit by her on the bed and hold Millie. I gave her a kiss, so then Sam wanted to and kept asking if he could give her another kiss and another kiss. We think he's going to make a great big brother. We are still really struggling to come up with a name by the way. Hopefully we figure it out before she's too old! While we were in Utah we also visited Grandma Andersen, visited the Jacobs (mostly with Shirley and Aunt LaDawn), went to an awesome fabric store in Draper, walked around the Provo temple (Sam LOVED it), kicked Sam's favorite blue ball around next to the temple, ate Cafe Rio, played more Ticket to Ride, and ate delicious food (you can always count on that when Grandma's around!). I just love that Sam is old enough to build memories with extended family. Makes me look forward to our time with them EVEN more.Playing catch with Uncle Tyler! We had a bit of car trouble on the way home... the van started doing this weird chugging thing as I was driving on I-15. Felt like I was running out of gas but I had 3/4 tank. Luckily the 7200 South exit was just a few hundred feet away so I exited and pulled into a gas station. Caleb called his Dad to come check things out. After lots of thinking and talking with Caleb he suggested we start by putting injector fluid in the gas tank. Then we went up the road to Auto Zone and they did a test on it and said a cylinder just misfired prob b/c the injectors were dirty and to put injector fluid in the gas tank! So grateful Dad (& Mom!) Baker came to save the day and knew exactly what to do. They live in Elk Ridge (near Payson) so it was nice of them to drive up to Salt Lake and help us. We drove home without a problem and the van hasn't had a problem since.
Our winter has continued to be extremely mild for Idaho Falls. There have been a lot of nice days. Saturday it was even warm enough that we went and played comfortably on the playground at Bridgewater and Caleb played football outside with some young men. We are not complaining!!
Last Monday we had the Batts over for FHE. We always like hanging out with them. At one point I realized Sam and Mitch were in the kitchen and that it'd been quiet for a few minutes. I went in there and they'd dumped out a full cup of water on the kitchen table and were splashing in it. What rascals! They have lots of fun together.
Him and Ellie also play well together. We went and got Ellie last week for a few hours since her Mom had just had a baby.Sam is crazy about basketball hoops right now. We have a little tikes one and he spends a lot of time shooting his soccer ball and his new mini basketball. He also loves to find basketball hoops in people's driveways or at parks. The other day when we were coming home from the library we literally pulled into a neighborhood just to find basketball hoops! A new form of sightseeing I suppose. We saw a couple without nets and he talked about that constantly for a couple days. "Basket hoop had no net!" He was really concerned about it. :) I told him to say "Go Cougars" and I got this cheering shot! :) We usually have the hoop in the kitchen but lately he likes it in the living room for some reason. He definitely favors his left hand when he shoots. Caleb was shooting around with Sam and was doing fade away jump shots and Sam immediately started trying to copy him. He always impresses us with his athleticism. Caleb and I even had a little game of PIG the other night with our little indoor hoop. He won.
Sam's favorite book lately is Goodnight Moon. I remember that was one of my favorites when I was little too. He LOVES reading books. I think we read Goodnight Moon at least 10 times a day, and lots of other books multiple times daily too. :)
The Schuldts came over Friday night for dinner and Ticket to Ride which was fun. She also asked me to babysit McKenna one day a week (Wednesdays), 8 - 5. I think it'll work out well at least til the baby comes, then we'll see. This represents well our Saturday! Caleb is the best Dad. He sincerely loves spending so much time with Sam. They built this awesome tower! Sam loves his legos lately.
Sam and I are still going to the church three mornings/week to work out. It's the perfect set up and I'm really grateful I have that set time to work out. Ever since we got back from Utah I've been in deep cleaning mode. I have a long list of things to do before the baby comes! Nesting phase has begun.
We had Stake Conference this weekend which was inspiring and we are excited to make some changes. After the adult session we went to Chick Fil A, our favorite new place in town.
Caleb officially completed his application to BYU's MBA program on Jan. 3rd I think it was, so we'll probably hear back mid to end of February on that. He also had a phone interview with a company last week but hasn't heard back since then. Lots of things in the works but only time will tell where our next move is. The Cromwells told us last night that Jake lost his job so they need to move in with his parents as soon as we can find someone to replace them. So yet another search for good renters begins. One unit lost heat over Christmas... our first somewhat costly repair since we got the fourplex. :(
Caleb and I both were kind of sick yesterday. It was weird -- we felt achy and feverish and just exhausted, but this morning we both felt better, just still a little low on energy. Sam seemed to be fine. Weird bug. Anyway better go get a few things done before Sam wakes up!I was sharing my chocolate ensure drink with Sam today and he thought there was hardly any left I guess cause he threw his head back and dumped it all over himself! I had to snap a picture before I put him in the tub. :)
