Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas! We left for Utah Thursday around noon and got back Tuesday around 7 pm. It was the perfect amount of time to be down there. It's always nice to be home again after being gone, but it's never fun to have Caleb go back to work! We missed him today. I much prefer when we can all be together. But I guess that's not real life.
Okay two weeks later I'm finally finishing this post! Hopefully I haven't forgotten all the details of our Christmas vacation by now.
We stayed at Rachel and Ben's house in Springville which was a lot of fun. They always make us feel so welcome and loved and Sam enjoyed having Nephi, Abish, and Jared around. He especially likes Rachel. If she was ever gone he'd say, "Where'd Rachel go?"
Thursday evening we went to a BYU basketball game with Arlene and Cody and their kids, Dad Baker, and Matthew and Staci. It was a lot of fun. Sam loved the first half and fell asleep for the whole second half. BYU won which makes it even more fun. We definitely miss having Jimmer on the team though!
Friday morning we drove down to Spring City and spent the day with Grandpa Backus and Grandma Joyce. We loved being able to spend some time with them. And I always love being in Spring City. It's just so beautiful. Marci and Grant came that evening too so we got to see them and their kids for a bit. Sam's dream came true when he got to sit on Grandpa's tractor! He wandered way out in this field (he's the little figure out there in the middle). It's very unlike Sam to leave his Mommy and Daddy like that, but he just took off!I zoomed way up on him and got this shot. He'd refused to wear his gloves so he eventually got a little cold and start calling for us to come get him.We loved watching the deer out the window. Caleb's one good buck spotter! Sam had a scary fall off a bed in the basement that him and a couple other kids were jumping on. Caleb ran downstairs when he heard him cry and found him passed out on the floor. He woke up about 15 seconds later and was pale for about 20 minutes but then was fine. He used to pass out every time he hit his head but hasn't done it for about 6 months and we'd hoped he'd grown out of it. I guess not completely. Scary. We were grateful he was okay.
Saturday was Christmas Eve. I washed Matthew and Staci's rag quilt at the laundry mat then Caleb and Nephi and Abish helped get all the strings and fuzzies off. We wrapped it and went to Matthew and Staci's and exchanged gifts which them which was fun. We had a nice dinner at Mom and Dad Baker's house in Elk Ridge along with Rachel and Ben and some of Ben's family. We read/acted out the Christmas story and watched part of "It's a Wonderful Life." Caleb and Sam had fun building this cool car.Sunday was Christmas! We were surprised that morning to see that Santa (Ben) had even brought stockings full of goodies to Caleb and me! When I was cutting out our matching pajama pants I ran out of fabric so decided to save that fabric for next year. So Sam instead got elmo pajamas for Christmas. He likes elmo. :)Church was at 11, then we opened presents, then talked with my parents and siblings on google+. Caleb and I (mostly Caleb) had written a poem for my parents to read which announced their Christmas present: a cruise! Dad already knew but it was a complete surprise for Mom. They leave January 16th and we're all so excited for them. Rachel and I had to get a belly pic. She's due January 20th with her 6th child, 5th boy!Sam was distracted by an airplane...Sam's favorite present by FAR was his soccer ball. He did seem to like his train too for a bit, and since being home he has loved his legos from Gma and Gpa Andersen. But his soccer ball was definitely his overall favorite. That kid has some amazing coordination for 20 months old!
Sunday afternoon we stopped by the Andelin's and got to visit with all of them for a while (including Lise and her fam!) which was really fun. Monday Caleb went coyote hunting/calling with Josh and his Dad. They didn't see any coyotes but had a good time anyway. Sam and I stopped by Cami and Tyler's and visited with them for a bit. Another belly pic!! :) Me and Cam.
Monday night we had a get together with all the Bakers in Elk Ridge. We ate, played games, and had a family history course geared especially toward the youth that Caleb spear headed.
Tuesday we went to the Children's museum in Salt Lake with Rachel and her kids and Josh and Stephanie and Jonathan. Sam really liked it. It's definitely somewhere we'll want to go again. We mostly took videos but did get a few pics.Sam got to sit inside a helicopter! And he was even wearing his helicopter shirt coincidentally. :)We appreciated so much the hospitality of Ben and Rachel. Rachel, as always, had wonderful meals and even gave me a pedicure!! (Much needed, considering my rough feet shredded part of our sheets a few weeks ago) And we love Utah weather. Every time we go we're amazed at how much nicer it is. Those 5 degrees and no wind make a pretty big difference. It's been a really mild winter in Idaho Falls though too. We've hardly had any snow. I think Sam's the only one who's sad about that.
