Outdoors man

Sam is definitely an outdoors man. He goes to the door begging to go outside like a puppy needing to go to the bathroom. Laura suggested we get him a doggy door. :) Not a bad idea! He is so happy outside. That's why I think he's going to love the Baker family reunion. We're leaving in a couple hours to drive down to Provo. We'll be camping by Utah Lake until Saturday. I'm a little worried about him waking others up (he wakes up between 5:30 and 6 am EVERYDAY! I hope he grows out of this soon!) but hopefully he'll be tired enough from swimming and being in the sun all day that he'll sleep okay.
He loves playing with dirt. Luckily there's one pot that's just dirt still; it gives the plants a better chance of surviving! Our friends the Crooks moved unexpectedly for an internship in California so she gave me her plants! Not much of a garden but I love watering it everyday and watching it grow. There's something really satisfying about that.
Two weekends ago Caleb and I ran the Melaleuca 5K. I was first place for the women (3rd overall - 22:15) and Caleb was 3rd for the men (5th overall - 23:15). It was a pretty low key race and obviously since we played so high not the most popular. But it was fun to race. Laura was there to hold Sam and cheer us on (except I was running so blazing fast she didn't even see me finish!). Afterwards we went to Jimmy John's, the zoo, and then topped the day off with Reed's Dairy. Our favorite!! Laura watched Sam again for us this last weekend while we ran the Teton Dam 10K. I thought it was hilarious to call it our "dam 10K" but apparently I'm not the only one who enjoyed that play on words. All the race volunteers had shirts that said "DAM VOLUNTEER." haha. There was a HUGE hill in our 10K which we can't really train for in Idaho Falls, but luckily what goes up must come down so we had a huge downhill to fly down. I got a 1st place medal for my age group but was 17th overall and Caleb was 19th overall. Caleb had a sprint finish with this other guy that was really exciting. Caleb beat him by .2 seconds!! I was so proud.
Besides our races, our other HUGE recent accomplishment is getting a new sprinkler box put in! When I say our, I mean Caleb's! We've been getting down into those spider and earwig infested sprinkler boxes every time we need to turn the sprinklers on for way too long!! Just kidding it's really not that bad. But it's just one less thing to have to remember. Caleb is so incredibly good at fixing things. I love it.
